Artist: Beach Weather

Album: Melt

Release Date: October 25, 2024

Beach Weather’s album Melt captures the band’s signature breezy alt-pop sound while venturing into deeper emotional terrain. Known for their infectious hooks and sun and desert-soaked vibes, the group delivers a record that feels like both a continuation and an evolution of their artistry. Melt is saturated with yearning, California imagery, and soulful tunes to night drive to.

The album opens with “Desert Disco” which is an appropriate introduction with its shimmering track that sets the tone with its lush instrumentation.

The album seems as if it comes from a vulnerable place and transience, creating a balance between Beach Weather’s trademark dreamy aesthetic and a raw vulnerability. Melt is filled with layers of detail and heart in a spacey and warm ambience.

The albums title track “Melt” is a sugary pop love song filled with a hypnotic melody.

Standout tracks are “High in Low Places,” “Hardcore Romance” and “Deadbeat Blues.”

On the more experimental side, “High in Low Places” takes us to a heavier indie soaked soundscape. It sees the group pushing their boundaries, blending elements of alternative rock with haunting vocal layering. In contrast, “Brain Dead” shows the band in a bouncy pop light while incorporating soft lyrics of possible hazy inebriation.

Lyrically, Melt delves into themes of desire, self-reflection, and the tension between obscure love.

The album feels like a journey through the ebb and flow of emotions, mirrored by its dynamic pacing.

While Beach Weather stays true to their laid-back roots, Melt showcases a newfound maturity and complexity. It’s a record that invites listeners to dive deeper, while still being fun and slightly reckless. Melt is a rewarding listen chock full of melodic hits, star gazed atmospheric instruments.

Score: 3.5/5
