Mehro at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, Ca on March 21.
By Lacey James
Eloquent and sultry mehro captivated Los Angeles audience at the El Rey Theatre.
With killer looks, a tender demeanor, and wrapped in leopard, mehro (pronounced Marrow and stylized lowercase) approached the stage with glaring confidence often only found in seasoned musicians. With tunes like “not alone” and "dopamine,” mehro graced the stage with a bright-eyed attitude and a strong sense of self awareness.
Mehro is calm and zen and after two songs, mehro took a pause to plead with the crowd to introduce themselves to three of their fellow concert goers. Mehro alluded that they are all “family” while they were in attendance. The audience accepted the unique request and mehro showed an endearing act of affection and did breathing exercises hoping to relax the excited spectators.
In the past few years as an artist, mehro has developed an incredible sense of showmanship and it’s paying off. With sweet breezy tunes like “hideous,” mehro’s lyrics are truthful and self-reflective.
“This is for my humans laying in their beds alone tonight,
This is for my people tortured by their thoughts until daylight”
-not alone
Pausing for brief narratives between songs, reminiscent of early Bruce Springsteen, and the intimate storytelling makes Mehro certainly one to watch.
Blending tranquilizing acoustic guitars, a beautiful soothing voice and marimbas into a unique indie dream pop sound, mehro’s sound is uniquely compelling.
Having already conquered feats like Tiny Desk, you can catch mehro until early April.
