Paramore - This Is Why

From the latest album by Paramore, This Is Why, which is also the album’s title track, revisits the feelings of confinement and seems to be an ignition of the flame that has been troubling the free state of artistic minds post pandemic. Being the band’s first album in 5 ½ years, Paramore still wreaks havoc in a positive way with a battle cry for the introverts. The tune has an experimental feel that is reminiscent of The Talking Heads while also incorporating the well-established range of Hayley Williams. “This Is Why” intertwines soft and sultry vocals throughout the verses and nevertheless, the familiar and explosive powerhouse vocals of past tracks creeps in subtly to the conclusion of the bridge.

Lead singer and songwriter Hayley Williams, says of the inspiration and ideas of the track, “I grew up being on the road and being very much outside” —"But I kind of learned how introverted I am on this break”

“I just realized how grateful I was for a feeling of safety” she says to BBC Radio.

The marimba and jagged guitar playing throws you through a spiral of the unfamiliar, yet still leaves breathing room for a promising and gratifying release with a bouncy disco dance theme that can co-exist with former Paramore songs. “This Is Why” has an innate lifted feeling of eagerness and pleas to overcome restraint and allows for the helpful discourse and consideration of living life to its fullest. “This Is Why” proves the bands evolving nature and that they still have the need to say something powerful and relevant while playing off a bleak situation.
